This is a fabulous documentary on SAC Capital and the SEC’s pursuit of Stevie Cohen on insider trading. Cohen’s returns based on what was often short-term trading are virtually impossible to understand, unless there was inside information involved. It is a lot different looking at someone like Warren Buffett that holds on to businesses for long periods of time and has a consistent methodology. Cohen used teams of traders whose job it was to feed him information. It makes no sense to pay huge commission fees unless you are seeking to obtain the best information, which leads one to believe that the information was inside information. Most of the great investors have various similarities but Cohen really is the odd man out of that group. Perhaps he is just “smarter” than everyone but I tend to believe that where there is smoke there is also fire in this circumstance. Regardless, he is entitled to due process but his SEC testimony is pretty damning.
